“Crystal was the missing piece of the jigsaw for us” - how one Surrey couple realised their creative dreams with Retrotouch

12 April 2023

Buying your first home is an exciting process. For Richard and Irada, first-time homeowners, it was a chance to let their creative aspirations shine. Years of renting had fostered a yearning to personalise their home interior. Now, with their top-storey flat near Guildford town centre, they had the blank canvas they needed.

A new kitchen and bathroom were top priorities - its earlier existence as a rental property had meant a fair amount of wear and tear. Also on the agenda was a new paint job. And on this point, they weren’t afraid of radical change.

“We’d always wanted our home to reflect our character. We love cosy, warm evenings indoors, and we wanted a colour scheme that matched that,” Richard told us.

“Having visited a few showrooms in previous years, we had a good idea about which colour we wanted for the living room - dark green. We knew that lighter colours gave a sense of spaciousness, but we actually wanted the opposite, especially for those cold winter evenings. In the end, Dulux’s Emerald Green gave us the snug, comforting feel we wanted, and now it’s like we live in our own private rainforest!”

But for the couple - both busy professionals who regularly work from home - the property also lacked a modern feel. A new kitchen and bathroom, complete with updated fittings appliances, went some way to changing that. But there was something else missing.

“We love home technology, especially smart gadgets, so we were excited about the prospect of making it feel more up-to-date,” Irada said.

“Even after we officially moved in, and all our existing devices were there sitting on the shelves, it still seemed a bit dated. That’s when we started focusing our attention on some of the more integrated fittings, like light switches and plug sockets.”

“Our existing ones felt squeaky, made out of low-grade plastics, and one seemed to attract dirt particularly easily. So we started shopping around for an alternative. After going through several inferior options, none of which fit the bill, we found Retrotouch. And we stumbled upon something truly different.”

Overhauling their home’s switches and sockets with Retrotouch’s Crystal range, they now had the finishing touches they were looking for.

“The Crystal range provided just the premium quality we needed. Our switches and sockets shine beautifully throughout our home, but it’s not just the way they look. They’re also a pleasure to use, as the sleek glass finish always feels nice to touch,” Irada explained.

For their bedroom, painted a smoky dark blue colour, they went for a Wi-Fi-enabled smart dimmer switch, allowing them to control the switch from the comfort of their bed.

“No one wants to be the one to have to get up to turn the lights off. So now, rather than having to draw straws, we have our bedroom lights controllable via our app. And because it’s dimmable, we can make fine adjustments to the brightness as well,” Richard told us.
